Urban Legend Stands the Test of Time

Do you know any spooky urban legends?
Do you tell them to your children?
I made the mistake of sharing one with Griffin.

Read all about it here and
be sure to leave a comment over at Athens Patch.

Let me brag about these cheesy spiders

It's my turn to bring snack for Koen's class
so I just couldn't resist throwing together a spooky treat for Halloween.

They were super duper easy to make.

Here's the instructions if you want to make some too...
I found it over at disneyfamily.com
Hands-On Time: 3 minutes
Ready In: 3 minutes
Yield: 1 serving
Ingredients
    Mini Babybel cheese
    4 small pretzel sticks
    2 raisins
Directions
  1. Unwrap a Mini Babybel cheese and take the wax off. Break 4 small pretzel sticks ("spider legs") in half and insert at an angle into the underside of the cheese, arranging 4 on each side. (For longer legs, use 8 whole pretzel sticks.) Add 2 raisins for eyes; use a pretzel to auger out eye holes.
Happy Halloween!

52 Weeks of Happiness :: Week 34

Oh the fun to be had at the pumpkin patch.
We took our 2nd annual trip over the weekend
and have officially decided that we will return every single year
until the kids turn into surly teenagers and refuse to go.

There's a super duper fun hayride,

a huge bouncy pillow
where you can get some major air,

a vortex tunnel that makes you feel dizzy and alive,

a huge corn maze,
(we got lost and just cheated and escaped through the corn)

pig races,

pig noses,

a cow train,

and awesome memories!

P.S. Let's all lift up prayers for our northeastern friends!
Stay safe out there!

Local Love : Heirloom Cafe

I had lunch with a friend yesterday
and we decided to meet up at a local place
called Heirloom Cafe that people around here
have been gushing about.

I decided to give it a shot
and I'm so glad that I did.

DSC_0003-3

They have an awesome patio
and it was such a beautiful sunny day
to sit beneath a big red umbrella
and chat with a good friend.

DSC_0004-1

I decided to live life on the edge and order a Mimosa.
Who was that relaxed woman, sitting outside without children,
and drinking a champagne drink at 11:30 in the morning?

Me, that's who. I know, I'm just so crazy.

The drink was yummy, by the way.

DSC_0005-3

The waitress was very accomidating
about my gluten nonsense and
suggested that I order the Fall Fig Salad.

Mixed greens, dried figs, roasted fall squash,
pickled red onions, goat cheese, candied pecan vinaigrette...
be still my beating heart.

It was sooooooooo yummy!
So, I can honestly send some local love to Heirloom Cafe.

Hunting for Crystals

I've been pondering lately about the motivations
behind each of the posts on this blog.

Sometimes I write a post because my creativity
is brimming and I have no choice but to let my vision take over.

Other times, I want to celebrate a wonderful
moment in my life and document it here on these pages.

Sometimes, I hope to inspire my readers
to slow down and enjoy the smallest and most fleeting moments life.

DSC_0035-6

Other times, I blog for my children.
So that they will have a record of their childhood.

I recently went on a field trip with Griffin's class
on a quest to find crystals buried in a Georgia field.

DSC_0036-2

The kids felt like explorers and it was amazing
to watch their excitement when they unearthed
beautiful rocks and crystals.

DSC_0039-1

Griffin would tell each class member,
"Oh, let my mom take a picture of that one
and she'll put it on her blog!"

DSC_0047-2

They would seek me out in the woods...
"Excuse me, Griffin's mom, will you take a picture of this?"

DSC_0048-2

Who could say no to that request?

DSC_0054

So, now I have a whole photo collection
of children proudly showing me their treasures.

DSC_0030

I was honored to forever capture that moment in time.
The time when they were so curious and free.

DSC_0038

So, here you go sweet kids.
This blog post if all for you
and your wonderful shiny rocks!

52 Weeks of Happiness :: Week 33

DSC_0088

Let me tell you why going to a Fall Festival is so awesome.
Because you can shove two Italian ices in your face at once.

DSC_0089

You can get cotton candy that is bigger than your head.

DSC_0094

You can wait in line for 45 stinkin' minutes
with a wild three-year-old and
the moment he sits down to get transformed into Batman,
he freezes like a good little statue.

DSC_0099-3

Oh, the excitement of having every single kind junk food
you could possibly want available in one tent
is almost too much to stand.

Let me tell you, going to a festival with a gluten intolerance
is almost a form of torture.

I swear that I heard a funnel cake laugh at me when I walked by.

Perhaps the biggest success was
purchasing marshmallow shooters for the boys.

The marshmallows have been flying at my house ever since.

I love good old fashioned fun!

Wild Flower Love Affair

DSC_0240-2

One of my favorite things about going to the plantation
is seeing the expansive fields of tall grass and flowers.

This is the perfect habitat for quail and
since the property is a hunting preserve,
the land is groomed to have wild blooms
spread all over the place.

It's a dream come true for a flower bandit like me.

Since we all know that I
can't just admire a flower
without walking up and saying hello,
here are some of the lovely ladies
that I encountered while in South Georgia.

DSC_0217

I met electric pink flowers,

DSC_0200

cascading white flowers,

DSC_0196

little yellow flowers hugging sweet white flowers,

DSC_0182

white blooms that looked like tiny firework explosions,

and I even swooned at purple Beautyberries too.

It was a wild flower love affair.
