52 Weeks of Happiness :: Week 47

Photobucket

Having a little friend to go
grocery shopping with me.

I just love that Koen takes
a trip with me every Friday
to buy our weekly groceries.

Our sweet routine starts in the parking lot
and as we hold hands,
he tries to dart off to scare unsuspecting birds.

Sometimes he splashes in rain puddles
while other times he marvels
at the huge delivery trucks idling in the unloading area.

Photobucket

His little feet dangle below him
as he perches in the shopping cart.
We zip up and down the aisles while
he grabs at snacks and bargains with me
to sneak a few bites of this and that.

I always say no at first
but he somehow manages to
eat his way through the entire grocery store.

Then he isn't hungry for lunch later.
I really don't mind a spoiled lunch once a week.
Sometimes I'll do just about anything
to keep him busy so I can shop in peace.

Photobucket

Every single person who passes by us
smiles at him.

Sometimes I catch him playing peek-a-boo
with little old ladies as they wheel on by.

I treasure these moments that pass between us
in the grocery store aisles.
Soon, he will be in pre-school
and I will shop all alone.

For now, it makes me
terribly happy to have him there with me.

Winner : Flipper Edition

Sorry for the delay...there was a big ol' wreck up the road from us and they took out an entire telephone pole so we had no power for hours and hours. Luckily, no one was hurt but we all felt Amish over here without electricity all day. I digress...

We have a winner for this week's installment of Freakshow Friday. Please take note that my super hilarious and non biased best friend was the judge. Here are the top three in no particular order.

Linda D.
"Gee" Marge thought, "I wish this cruise ship
had a different way to disembark."

Erin and Me: Color Block

Erin and I had so much fun
doing our a photo an hour project last week
that we decided to do it again.

To make it more challenging,
we picked the theme of color blocking.
Erin's photos are on the left

Enjoy!

Trouble in Heartlake City

My weekly column is up.

This week's topic is about
gender based marketing
and how the folks at LEGO
angered parents
with their toy line made for girls.
Many claim that the toys are sexist.

The Stay at Home Mom Chronicles : When You're a 7 Year Old Boy

I'm realizing that my days around here seem to run together.
Ordinary moments unfold around me daily
and I need to stop and relish in them.
One day, my boys will be out living life
and I will miss these everyday experiences.

So, I am taking the time to document
the simple moments that pass between us.
I'm calling this little collection of memories...

Photobucket

I want to always remember Griffin
and the age of 7.
Honestly, it's been my favorite age so far.

Photobucket

There is so much growing
and new found independence
when you're a 7 year old boy.

Everything is an adventure....

Photobucket

Like how the backyard is
so easily transformed into a baseball stadium.

Watching the boys go to bat in the back
is like a right of passage.
I get choked up thinking
about the generations of fathers and sons
that have smacked baseballs together throughout time.

Photobucket

When you are a 7 year old boy
you can easily be a part of an
elite sword yielding samurai team
that stops the bad guys in two seconds flat.

Photobucket

Somehow, running down a hill
is a thrilling and serious adventure still.

Photobucket

Perhaps the most exciting part of
being that 7 year old boy
is that you learn how to read.

I love that he can often be found
laying around with a good book.
His mind is traveling to far away places
and I am so happy
to watch as he travels there in his imagination.

Photobucket

Yet still, nothing is as awesome
as a hug from daddy.

I treasure the fact
that he still loves hugs.

52 Weeks of Happiness :: Week 46

Photobucket

Taking the kids to Fernbank Museum of Natural History.

We packed up the car and
drove into Atlanta
to have a little fun.

Koen was really impressed with all the "dragon" bones
and the room full of "dragon" statues.

Photobucket

It was one of those magical days
where the children were completely engaged
in their surroundings.

They peeked in every little microscopic display
that the museum had to offer.

Photobucket

They climbed pretend trees
and stomped over draw bridges.

Photobucket

They crouched down and searched
secret hiding places
and screamed and shouted with excitement
when they located small plastic woodland creatures.

Photobucket

They stuck their little noses
up to every little display that the
was laid out before them.

Photobucket

It was a mad scientist kind of day.
